The Farms In addition to our own farm operation, we strive to work with other farmers, buying shares of their products. The strength of our CSA and farm shop offerings is in the individual farms we work with. Small farms have a hard time producing all that a family might need for food. Consequently, small farms tend to specialize in a particular area, whether it is vegetables, herbs, dairy, or meats. Some farms are able to produce more than one of those commodities, and still others specialize further in a single product like pastured beef, cheese, or cranberries. The farmers we work with practice organic farming, or IPM in the case of some fruit farmers. We prefer farms that pasture their animals, at least for most of the year. Here is a listing of the farms that make up Renaissance Farms' CSA: Renaissance Fairview: A small 1.5 acre homestead, our original farmette. This property is undergoing a phased transition which will see the 1 acre hillside cleared for native and cold-climate grapes. The 1/2 acre surrounding the home (which is to be expanded slightly), has been stripped of the majority of ornamental plants in preparation for transition to a completely edible landscape, focusing mainly on culinary and medicinal herbs. The soils here on the hill are ideal for herbs, and not much else. When our family has moved from this home, we will be seeking a steward family to help move these plans forward, with the helping hands of our CSA members. Neighborly Farms, Vermont: Rob and his family run an organic cheese operation in Rnadolph Center, Vermont. Their animals are pastured and cared for with love and attention. They produce a variety of fabulous award-winning cheeses, including several raw milk varieties. Our favourite is the Green Onion Cheddar - what a treat! Rob and his family really live up to their farm's name - nicer folks you are not likely to meet. Check this page often as we gather more profiles of the farms and farmers we work with.
